Bangladesh wins two gold medals in SA Games shooting

Bangladeshi shooters clinched both the team and individual gold medals in the women's 10-metre Air Rifle shooting of the 11th South Asian Games on the opening day of the competition at the National Shooting Complex in Gulshan Tuesday, reports UNB.
Bangladesh shooting team comprising Sharmin Akhter Ratna, Syeda Sadia Sultana and Tripti Dutta grabbed the team event's gold medal scoring total 1191 out of 1200.
Sharmin Akhter Ratna scored 398, Syeda Sadia Sultana scored 397 and Tripti Dutta scored 396 on the way to win the team gold.
India team consisting of Mampi Das (394), Shruti Tushar Bhatepatil (391) and Tejaswini Manojrao (390) secured the event's silver medal scoring 1175 while Pakistan team comprising Nazia Khan (386), Nosheen Maqsood Ali (382) and Naheda Naqvi (379) got the bronze medal scoring total 1147.
Sharmin Akhter Ratna also grabbed the individual gold medal of the same event scoring 499.4 out of 500 - the best ever score by any Bangladeshi shooter. Her teammate Syeda Sadia Sultana earned silver medal scoring 498.3 in a keenly contested event.
Indian Mampi Das got the bronze scoring 496.9.
After winning the first shooting gold, Sharmin Akhter Ratna said, "I am very much happy to win the gold. We proved our potential in shooting, now we are looking for the Olympic gold."
Sadia said, "I am so happy. It gives me immense pleasure to bag the gold in the event. Now it is time to look forward."
With this success, both expect gold in the upcoming Olympic Games.
The two shooters dedicated their medals to their parents as well as the people of Bangladesh.
Earlier, on Monday, veteran lifter Hamidul Islam wrote his name in golden letters in the history of the country's weightlifting clinching the first gold medal for Bangladesh in the 11th SA Games in the 77 Kg weight category.
This was the first international gold for Bangladesh in weightlifting since the emergence of independent Bangladesh.
Hamidul, lifted a total of 257 kgs to present the maiden gold to Bangladesh on the 3rd day of the competition at the NSC gymnasium. He lifted 117 kgs in snatch and 140 kgs in clean & jerk.
