Bangladesh women stun Sri Lanka

Captain Sabina Khatun and Krishna Rani Sarkar scored a brace each as the Bangladesh women's team came from behind to beat Sri Lanka by an exciting 6-3 margin in the SAFF Women's Futsal Championship held at Nonthaburi Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday, reports BSS.
In the day's match, Shanu Paskaran opened the scoring for Sri Lanka in the 13th minute, while Imesha Kankanamlage doubled the lead by scoring the second goal in the 16th minute of the match.
Bangladesh fought back strongly when goal-machine Sabina Khatun scored two goals in two minutes. She reduced the margin by scoring the first goal for Bangladesh in the 18th minute and levelled the margin by scoring the second goal in the 20th minute of the match.
Sumaya Matsushima put Bangladesh ahead by scoring the third goal in the 29th minute, while Krishna Rani further widened Bangladesh's margin by scoring the fourth goal in the 36th minute of the match.
Mansura Parvin made the scoreline 5-2 in the 38th minute, while Krishna Rani scored her second and Bangladesh's sixth goal in the 40th minute of the match.
Imesha reduced the margin by scoring her second and Sri Lanka's third goal a few seconds before the final whistle.
The day's win saw Bangladesh maintain their domination in the points table with ten points from four matches, while Sri Lanka remained with their previous collection of one point from the same number of matches.
Earlier, Bangladesh made a winning start in the tournament by beating India by 3-1 goals in their opening match, thanks to skipper Sabina Khatun, who played a key role in the Bangladesh victory by scoring a brace.
Sabina and Co came from behind to play out a 3-3 draw with Bhutan in their second match and blanked Nepal by 3-0 goals in their third match.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka played out a 2-2 draw with Nepal, suffered a 3-2 defeat to Pakistan and a 5-1 defeat to Bhutan.
Bangladesh will play their remaining matches against Pakistan tomorrow (Friday) and Maldives on January 25 at the same venue.
