Monday, 3 October 2011

A locally made digital innovation has clinched this year's United Nations World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) for its contribution in attaining UN's Millennium Development Goal (MDG) towards women development, reports BSS. A group of Bangladeshi youth created the outstanding digital e-content through a website styled 'Amar Desh Amar Gram (www.amardesheshop.com)' that has paved the way of market access to rural women through e-commerce. The youth group named 'Future Solution for Business (FSB) Bangladesh' led by a young IT expert Ataur Rahman and his wife Sadequa Hassan Sejuti and two others Nurur Rahman Khan and Sharifun Hassan Bithi has created the first ever e-commerce based website in the country. The WSYA declared 36 awards last month for this year under different categories out of 700 contestants around the globe. FSB is the only Bangladeshi group that got the award under 'power to women category. The award will be handed over at the WSYA Festival 2011 to be held in Austria next month. This is the first project of its kind that takes computers and web access to the lowest income group and empowers them with a possibility that was not available to them previously, said the UN's WSYA official website about the project.
