Bangladeshi elected in Oxford local govt polls

Farida Anwar, a Bangladeshi-born British citizen, has been elected a councillor in Oxford local government polls. A Labour Party nominee, Farida was earlier selected by the local government in Oxford to contest the election from Headington, according to a message received here on Monday. Farida Anwar, daughter of former civil servant Shah Muhammad Israil Haq of Faridpur district, settled in the UK in 1965 and held senior positions in British Civil Service. Farida Anwar said her win to the local government election will empower her in planning and executing welfare activities in Oxford, according to UNB.
