Bangladeshi journo wins WMS Global Awards

Bangladeshi journalist Sheuli Akter bagged the ‘World Media Summit Global Awards for Excellence 2014’ on Monday in Beijing. Sheuli Akter, special correspondent and editor of NsNewsWire, earned an honourable mention in the Exemplary News Professionals in Developing Countries category, for her story titled, ‘Emerging from Bangladesh’s worst ever industrial tragedy: survivors develop new skills, find jobs.’ Sheuli Akter told news agency Xinhua, ‘I truly feel honoured and grateful to have won the award. I feel greatly honoured to be a recipient of this award and would like to thank WMS. I think it would surely pave the way for our agency also to grow further, but it also puts more responsibility on us. This award is a huge achievement for me and will help me to pursue the next step on my journey,’ she added. Sheuli Akter’s NsNewsWire was one of over 450 news organisations and more than 500 news practitioners from 138 countries and regions that have submitted 1,424 entries for WMS Global Awards for Excellence, according to a news agency.
