Bangladeshis to be congratulated
Friday, 8 April 2011
I work as a Head of Department for Marks & Spencer and as the only Bangladeshi employed there, staff members come to me with the latest news, gossip and queries about Bangladesh. I think they expect me to know everything there is to know about Bangladesh!
When Musa Ibrahim scaled Mount Everest, he was a hot topic for weeks. Everyone was trawling the Internet to discover more and more about him. All Bangladeshis felt good deep in their hearts. Unquestionably, he is our first real sporting hero. Now the topic of discussion has changed to another world famous Bangladeshi, Dr. Moosa bin Shamsher.
Like Professor Muhammad Yunus seemingly appeared out of nowhere and beat thousands of his contemporaries to win the coveted Nobel Peace Award, Dr. Moosa bin Shamsher has walked away with the most coveted title in the fashion industry, "The World's Best Dressed Man".
That's absolutely fantastic for the image of Bangladesh. Even my favourite movie star, the ever cool, suave and sophisticated Pierce Brosnan did not get close and he is the coolest dresser in movies there is!
My sincere congratulations to Musa Ibrahim, Professor Muhammad Yunus and Dr. Moosa bin Shamsher for making us feel proud to be a Bangladeshi and helping rid of the negative beggars-in-the streets image. I hope there will be many more like them to come.
