State Minister for Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman has said that a nuclear power plant will be set up in Labanchhara in south-western district of Khulna. He said the Chinese government has shown their interest to build the nuclear power station in Bangladesh’s south-western region. The government has already taken a decision to establish the country’s 2nd nuclear power station in Khulna and Labanchhara has primarily been selected as the site of the plant, he said. Since it is a longer process to establish a nuclear power station, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already ordered authorities concerned to begin feasibility study for establishing the 2nd nuke power plant in Khulna’s Labanchhara, Architect Yeafesh Osman added, according to a private TV channel.
