Bangladesh’s dev not possible without good relations with India: Hasan

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said Bangladesh’s development is not possible without good relations with India as both the countries share common border of several thousand kilometers, reports BSS.
"The country (India) with which we (Bangladesh) have several thousand kilometers of border … the country with which we have borders on three sides---- our development is not possible without maintaining good relations with that country," he told reporters at the foreign ministryin the city on Monday.
The foreign minister said it is not possible to maintain peace and stability in Bangladesh without good relations with the neighbour.

Responding to a question during a media interaction in his ministry, Dr Mahmud felt that the programme was a sheer flop as it failed to attract people.
He has also pointed out that it is practically impossible for Bangladesh to halt trade with India for the sake of its own development.
Replying to another question, the minister says that Bangladesh wants to start Rohingya repatriation to their homeland in Myanmar soon.
Although there is conflict in Rakhine, it should not impede the repatriation start on a limited scale as such conflict is not new to the country, the minister observed.
He said recently he had discussed the issue with his Myanmar counterpart.
Responding to another question, he said that the issues related to further strengthening bilateral ties will be highlighted during the upcoming visit of US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu to Dhaka.
