Setting a new record, the barge mounted crane manufactured by Bengal Electric Ltd (BEL) unloaded a 214 MT and a 205 MT electric generator and gas turbine from the cargo to the project site at Shiddhirganj recently. This is the highest weight lifting by any locally made crane. Usually for such heavy duty lifting jobs companies here hire cranes from abroad but commissioning of the BELs 600 floating crane unveiled a new era for country's industrial sector, said a press release.
"The floating crane which was engineered & manufactured by The Bengal Electric Limited using in-house technology to cater the special need of salvaging drowned ships, has earlier lifted 30 numbers of girders each weighing 125 MT for Arial Khal Bridge Project, girders lifting at Kanchan Bridge 12 numbers each weighing 170 tons, Vetka Bridge 30 numbers of girders each weighing 50 tons, and lot of salvage works in Chittagong, Mongla and Munshiganj," BEL's director Muttakin Salam said.
The crane which is unique in Bangladesh , has once again proved it's worth for safe lifting of heavy lift cargo of a power station.
These Gas Turbine and Generator for the 240 MW Siddhirganj Power Plant were supplied by Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, the leading power company of India .
The equipment weighing 214 MT and 205 MT respectively were shipped to Mongla Port from Chennai, India .
The job of transportation from port to site, unloading at site is being executed by The Bengal Electric Limited as sub-contractor of BHEL for entire construction & enabling work of the power project including C&F and local transportation.
The very special job of unloading of two heavy lift cargo has been done for the first time in Bangladesh by means of a 600 ton floating barge mounted crane.
