Bangladesh's rights in international rivers

Friday, 5 June 2009

THE national dailies recently reported that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested the ambassadors of the developed countries to provide financial assistance for the reexcavation of the dead river Garai.
Bangladesh does not get water due to Farakka Barrage which diverts waters for India at the upstream. That is why the Padma and its branches like Garai, have such less of water.
India is going to build a dam on the Tipaimukh which will dry up our eastern rivers. Our Prime Minister has to request for not building the Tipai dam.
Bangladesh has to establish its rights to get sufficient water for the Padma and other rivers round the year.
Bangladesh needs to move to stop the construction of the dam on the Tipaimukh by India.
