FE Report
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has asked commercial banks and financial institutions to ensure re-financing facilities to woman entrepreneurs through fresh measures, officials said.
"We have instructed the banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) for taking effective measures to strengthen re-financing facilities to the woman entrepreneurs," a BB senior official told the FE Thursday.
He also said the central bank has amended provisions to facilitate financial support to the woman entrepreneurs on soft conditions and help them develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The central bank earlier introduced a re-financing scheme under its small enterprise fund to help the woman entrepreneurs involve in service, business and industrial activities.
Under the new provisions, the banks and NBFIs will have to receive loan proposals on a priority basis and settle them in a reasonable timeframe.
The banks and NBFIs have been asked to establish independent 'Women Entrepreneur's Dedicated Desk' with experienced officials to help the entrepreneurs in this connection.
The banks and NBFIs may consider appointing a woman official as the chief of the dedicated desk, the central bank said in a circular, issued Thursday.
The proposed dedicated desk will provide necessary advices to the woman entrepreneurs for preparation of the project proposal in accordance with banking procedures.
Besides, the banks and NBFIs may consider sanctioning a maximum Tk 2.50 million to a women entrepreneur against personal guarantee.
