Banned medicine endangers public health

Sunday, 13 April 2014

It is alarming news that different kinds of banned medicines are available in the markets in Dhaka. It is endangering public health and must not continue anymore. The banned medicines create side effects to patients and instead of curing diseases make those more complicated. The sellers of banned drugs, playing with public health, should be meted out exemplary punishment. Common people should also be aware of the side effects of banned drugs. Only their awareness about banned drugs may help win half of our battle against harmful drugs.
It is indeed sad that dangerous drugs, banned and discarded by the world, are available and used in our country with impunity. Not many people know about these banned drugs and consume those causing a lot of damage to health. The Health Ministry should publish a list of banned drugs in Bangladesh on its website. Tech-savvy people can create awareness among their near and dear ones through the internet and social media and we can be safe from these injurious medicines. Besides, the sellers and suppliers of banned drugs must be punished severely. Their trade licences should be confiscated. It is high time we stepped up our effort against banned medicines and discarded those forever.
