BAPEX to drill gas wells in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, Nov 20 (bdnews24.com): BAPEX, the state oil and gas exploration authority, will drill wells in Shahzadpur area in Noakhali in search of a natural gas reserve.
The exploration activities are set to start in the first week of December and will continue till February next year, official sources said.
Chief of parliamentary standing committee on information ministry and ruling Awami League's presidium member Obaidul Kader, after visiting the Sudolpur Oil-Gas Well Drilling Project Friday, said discovery of new gas reserve would play a significant role in addressing the prevailing power and energy crises in the country.
He asked BAPEX officials, local administration and political leaders to extend their support to make the drilling project a success.
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) managing director Mortuza Ahmed, project director Abdul Halim, Noakhali deputy commissioner Sirajul Islam and local Upazila chairman Mohammad Shahab Uddin were also present when Kader visited the drilling site.
