BARI holds training on invasive pests management

The Training and Communication Wing and Entomology Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) jointly organised a trainers' training styled 'Invasive Pests Management of Pineapple and Allied Crops Environmentally' for the officers of the Society for Social Service (SSS) at the seminar room of BARI on Sunday.
Fifteen officers of the SSS are participating in the three-day long training programme, funded by Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP).
BARI Director General Dr Debasish Sarker inaugurated the training workshop as the chief guest, according to a statement.
Director (Training and Communication) Dr Ferdousi Islam presided over the function while Director (Support & Services) Dr Md Kamrul Hasan, Director (Research) Dr Md Tariqul Islam and Director (Planning and Evaluation) Dr Apurba Kanti Chowdhury were present as special guests.
Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Entomology Division Dr Nirmal Kumar Dutta delivered the welcome address while Senior Scientific Officer of the division Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman Sarker conducted the function.
Chief of the agriculture department of SSS, Pradeep Kumar Sarkar, also highlighted various activities of SSS at the event.
BARI Director General Dr Debasish Sarkar said BARI has been conducting research to make food produce safe and nutritious.
It is also working on how to convert low cost crops into high value crops by value addition, he also said.
"We want to make our product and technology available to everyone. At the same time, we need to reduce the use of chemical pesticides at the production stage and increase the use of bio pesticides," he added.
