Barisal-5 by-poll June 12

Election to Barisal-5 constituency that fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP Shawkat Hossain Hiron will be held on June 12. The Election Commission has announced the election schedule at a press conference at the EC media centre in the city. According to the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination paper is May 11, while the date of scrutinising the same is May 14 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 21. The EC’s Barisal regional officer was appointed the returning officer for the by-election, while district election officials of Barisal and Bhola as assistant returning officers. The constituency comprises Barisal City Corporation (30 wards) and Barisal Sadar Upazila (nine union parishads). Sheikh Shawkat Hossain Hiron died at a hospital in Dhaka on April 9, according to a news agency.
