Barisal to be brought under rly network: Minister

Railway Minister M Mazibul Haque told Thursday the House that the government has a plan to bring Barisal under railway connection, reports BSS.
The government would take initiatives for construction of the Bhanga-Barisal railway line on completion of the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga line over the proposed Padma Multi-Purpose Bridge, he said while replying to a tabled question from independent lawmaker Rustom Ali Farazi.
The minister said the Bhanga-Barishal railway project has been included in the 20-year master plan of Bangladesh Railway (BR).
To another question, the minister said the government is carrying out a feasibility study on construction of a railway line from Navaran to Munsihganj via Satkhira.
Govt to upgrade 1,786km roads to 4-lane
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told Thursday the House that the government would upgrade 1,786 kilometre roads to four-lane to help faster vehicular traffic movement across the country.
"The roads would be upgraded to four- lane under the technical assistance of sub-regional road transport project preparatory facility," he said while replying to a question from treasury bench member Nizam Uddin Hazari.
The minister said the feasibility study and detail design work are going on under the project for upgrading roads to four-lane.
