Barrister Suman's bail upheld
Tuesday, 12 May 2026
The Appellate Division has upheld the bail granted by the High Court (HC) to former MP Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman in a case over the attempt to murder a Jubo Dal leader in Mirpur during the July Uprising, reports bdnews24.com.
A four-judge appellate bench led by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam gave the order on Monday.
However, Suman's lawyer said he will not be released right away as there are more cases pending against him.
Lawyer Md Liton Ahmed represented Suman at the bail hearing.
Liton told the news agency the HC granted bail to Barrister Suman in the case filed at Mirpur Model Police Station. When the state approached the Appellate Division's chamber court seeking a stay on the HC's bail order, the case was sent to the regular bench of the Appellate Division.
"The Appellate Division did not interfere with the HC order, meaning the HC's bail order remains in effect. At the same time, the state's application was disposed of," he said.
The lawyer, however, said Suman will remain in jail for now as there are still six more cases against him.
