Barua rules out possibility of urea scarcity

Industries Minister Dilip Barua ruled out the possibility of fertiliser scarcity in the country following temporary closure of the fertiliser factories Thursday.
"The country will face no shortage of urea as we have currently a stock of 5,00,000 MT of urea which is double the quantity compared to last year's stock," he said.
The minister was briefing reporters after the meeting of National Industry Development Council.
Replying to a query, he said the Ministry of Industries has taken steps to levy industry-friendly tax and duty structure in the upcoming budget.
The minister informed that the speakers demanded the Ministry of Industries to take regulatory control over the private industries for planned development.
They demanded that private industries should provide equal opportunities similar to the state-owned industries to ensure balanced socio-economic development.
The ministry will hold sector based meetings at the end of the month to provide recommendation to the commission.
Mirza Abdul Jalil, chairman of Privatisation Commission, Industries Secretary, Dewan Zakir Hossain and Jute and Textile Secretary, Ashraful Makbul, among others representatives, were present in the meeting.
