Barua seeks UNDP help for HR development

Industries Minister Dilip Barua sought UNDP's support for human resources development in Bangladesh. "UNDP can play effective role by supporting Bangladesh Institute of Management to improve its institutional efficiency," the minister said adding it will help human resources development activities. Mr Barua said this at a meeting with Martin Krause, team leader of Asia Pacific region on Environment and Energy Affairs of UNDP, at his Secretariat office Tuesday. The government is giving priority to environment-friendly green industrialization, the minister said lauding UNDP's support to formulating National Industrial Policy-2010. The government has announced shipbuilding, ship-breaking and ship recycling as thrust sectors in the industrial policy, he said seeking UNDP's support to these sectors. "We will provide our support to sustainable green growth of the country," Martin Krause said emphasizing on the environment-friendly industrialization in Bangladesh as envisaged in the industrial policy. "Environment-friendly industrialization in Bangladesh is possible in the light of the policy directives," he said adding that strong private sector will help Bangladesh to be a middle income country. Industries Secretary KH Masud Siddiqui, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Deputy Country Director Robert Juhkam and Assistant Country Director M Tarik-ul-Islam were also present at the meeting.
