BARVIDA hails govt for relaxing car import rules
FE Report | Sunday, 3 August 2008
The BARVIDA, an organisation of old car importers, Saturday hailed the government for the relaxation in the provisions for old car import.
The government has increased the time of old cars to six years from four years and withdrawn the restriction on cars' engine capacity.
From now on, importers of reconditioned vehicles will be able to import cars above 1649 cc. The Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) leaders expressed the hope that the decision would help raise the volume of car import in the country and the people of middle-income group would be able to buy cars.
"We think that cargo carrying vehicles aged more than four years will help expedite cargo transportation across the country," a statement issued by the BARVIDA said.
The statement said the commercial use of old cars will be ensured through the decision.
The statement also said old cars aged more than four years will be cheaper and the country's middle class people would be able to afford them.
