BASIC Bank approves 35pc stock dividend

BASIC Bank Limited has approved 35 per cent stock dividend for its shareholders for the year 2009.
The approval was given at the 21st annual general meeting (AGM) of the bank at its head office in the city recently, according to a press release.
Chairman of the board of directors of the bank Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu presided over the meeting while its Managing Director AKM Sajedur Rahman was present on the occasion.
Also present on the occasion were BASIC Bank directors Jahangir Akhand Salim, founder president of Chandpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Razia Begum, secretary (in charge) of the Ministry of Women and Children Welfare, Md Siddiqur Rahman, chairman of BSCIC, Bijoy Bhattachariee, joint secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Neelufar Ahmed, director general of Prime Minister's Office, Shakhawat Hossain, former commissioner of Customs, Prof Dr Kazi Akhtar Hossain, chairman of the Department of Accounting and Information System of Islami University, Md Anwarul Islam, managing director of ARS Lube Bangladesh Limited.
Shams Al Mujahid, deputy secretary, Finance division of the Ministry of Finance attended the meeting as the representatives of Ministry of Finance while M Maniruzzaman, FCA, attended the meeting on behalf of ACNABIN, the external auditors of the bank.
BASIC Bank earned a gross operating profit of Tk 1.676 billion (167.60 crore) and operating profit of Tk 1.568 billion (156.83 crore) during the year 2009, which was Tk 1.753 billion (175.31 crore) and 1.534 billion (153.41 crore) during the year 2008 and also by keeping the non performing asset to a minimum level with healthy capital adequacy ratio of 13.48 per cent in 2009, the management said.
The bank started with small amount of paid up capital of Tk 80 million its present capital and reserve stands at Tk 3.923 billion (392.39 crore).
Besides, the bank so far paid a cash dividend of Tk 638 million and income tax of Tk 4.225 billion (422.53 crore) to the government. At the end of 2009, the total assets of the bank stood at Tk 45.383 billion (4,530.83 crore), deposit of Tk 34.51 billion (3,450.16 crore). The earning per share (EPS) of the bank stood at Tk 44.59 (for 100 taka share), the bank said.
