BASIS going ahead with plan to produce 1.0m IT professionals

Country`s software- based trade body -BASIS is working with the giant professional houses to produce 1.0 million IT (Information Technology) professionals in five years across the country.
The organisation already made partnership with the largest mobile phone operator Grameenphone and the technology giant company Microsoft Bangladesh.
The two companies along with concerned government office will assist the organisation to implement its plan of making 'One Bangladesh.'
The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) recently adopted a five-year campaign on "One Bangladesh-- Next Five Years Vision of Bangladesh Software & IT Services Industry" with a view to building 1.0 million IT professionals.
BASIS president Shamim Ahsan thinks that the country`s socio- economic condition could change rapidly by adopting information communication technology at all corners and the IT sector will be great source of income for mainly the young generation.
In line with the plan, the organisation is working with the government and private companies to materialise the vision, the BASIS president said.
Under the agreement with the Grameenphone, both the organisations will work to establish an annual Internet Education Day in Bangladesh for all students and their parents; support development and distribution of internet- based applications with a capacity to reach more than 1 million active users; and increase the number of Internet users in Bangladesh by 10 million annually from 2014-2018.
BASIS will take lead in arranging a number of events featuring key actors to Internet development, such as the government, policy makers, industry and entrepreneurs.
BASIS will design a 12- month long activity roadmap commencing from the date of signing the MoU to fulfil the agreed ambition.
Besides, the Microsoft Bangladesh will provide technological assistance to the organisation. In addition, both the organisations will jointly arrange Technology and Software, Cyber Security related events.
