BASIS to hold IT expo in city on Jan 27-31

BASIS, a national software industry group, will organise a five-day exposition in the city, aiming to brand Bangladesh as the next 'frontier' of information technology.
The annual exposition of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) styled 'BASIS SOFTEXPO-2009' will be held on January 27-31 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
"This exhibition will help create a global platform for exuding our immense potentials, resources and skills," Habibullah N Karim, president of BASIS, said Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference at a city hotel, the association chief said it would also provide a room for interaction between different groups including software makers, buyers, IT users, professionals, media, policy makers, development partners and students.
"This exhibition is expected to increase the share of ICT in the country's GDP, create job opportunities for placement of skilled ICT professionals locally and internationally and facilitate the matchmaking of local and global clients with Bangladeshi IT companies," Mr Karim told reporters.
More than 200 exhibitors are taking part in the country's largest ICT exposition, the theme of which is 'Linking Technology with people and branding Bangladesh as the country with immense ICT potentialities.'
IT companies from the USA, Japan, the United Kingdom (UK), Denmark, Germany and Sweden are also expected to participate in the fair.
Multinational software vendors and ICT companies, international ICT associations, local software development companies, successful ICT projects initiated by multinational and local companies, government departments and agencies implementing e- governance projects, ICT training institutes and universities will join the expo, M A Mubin Khan, a director of BASIS, said.
