Basundhara BD Open golf begins in city on May 27

The first-ever Asian Tour event in Bangladesh, the 300,000 US dollars "Basundhara Bangladesh Open 2015" Golf tournament begins on May 27 at the Kurmitola Golf Course in the city, reports UNB.
In all, 150 leading golfers from 25 countries of the world including a record 31 players from hosts Bangladesh will compete in the four-round 72-hole tournament, approved by Ministry of Youth and Sports and sponsored by Basundhara Group.
A three-year agreement has been signed between Bangladesh Golf Federation (BGF) and the Asian Tour and similarly another three-year agreement has also been signed between BGF and the title sponsor Basundhara Group.
At least 10 former Asian Tour winners and 121 top golfers of Asia will compete in the Basundhara Bangladesh Open- 2015, one of the five new Asian Tour events this year and the 2nd Asian Tour in South Asia after India.
Seven to eight Bangladeshi players (the number may increase to 15) are expected to play until the 4th and final round with 65 players, avoiding the cut.
The winner will receive approximately 18 per cent of total prize money and rest 64 players will also get prize money in sliding scale.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Golf Federation Brigadier General Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah disclosed these at a press conference at the Kurmitola Golf Club Wednesday.
Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Golf Federation and Chairman of the Tournament Organising Committee Major General Mizanur Rahman Khan graced the function as the chief guest. Major Morshed also briefed the pressmen about Asian Tour rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, players and officials have already started arriving in the capital and by the May 24 all the participating golfers are expected to reach Dhaka. Hotel Radisson and Hotel Regency have been declared as official hotels of the meet.
Apart from 31 players from hosts Bangladesh, some 27 golfers will come from neighbouring India, followed by 26 players from Thailand.
