Bata Shoe approves 250pc cash dividend

Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited approved 250 per cent cash dividend comprising a final dividend of 105 per cent and interim dividend of 145 per cent for its shareholders for the year 2007.
This was approved at the 36th annual general meeting (AGM) of the company at Dhamrai in Manikganj Thursday.
Chaired by Bata Shoe Company Chairman Jorge Carbajal, the meeting was attended by its Managing Director JD Hearns, CFO Cesar Alex Panduro Arevalo and Company Secretary Md Hashim Reza along with other directors and senior executives.
A large number of shareholders took part in the meeting.
The Bata Shoe chairman said the company's turnover increased by 18 per cent despite global economic recession and its harmful impact on the economy of Bangladesh.
He stated that its turnover in retail sales grew by 20 per cent against 2006 and the growth in wholesale marketing was 15 per cent.
The company achieved a net profit of Tk 324.85 million in 2007.
During the year, the company contributed Tk 979 million to the public exchequer in the form of corporate tax, value added tax (VAT), custom duties and other taxes.
Carbajal told shareholders that at the end of 2007 the total number of retail outlets of the company stood at 237.
Among the non-retail channels, 420 were registered wholesale dealers and 566 dealer support programme (DSP) outlets, he said.
The Bata Shoe chairman thanked shareholders, customers, suppliers, employees and the government for their support.
