BATB launches afforestation campaign

British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) Tuesday launched its annual afforestation programme across the country.
Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Hussain Jamil inaugurated the sapling distribution programme at Chittagong Cantonment Ground in the port city on the day.
The divisional commissioner praised BAT Bangladesh's contribution for the countrywide afforestation campaign for almost three decades.
He also reiterated the need for afforestation to protect the country from natural disasters and mentioned that the programme complemented the government's national drive of tree plantation.
BATB head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Shaiful Bahari Mahpar acknowledged the support and contribution of local government officials of Ministry of Environment and Forests in implementing this campaign.
BATB Deputy Managing Director Golam Mainuddin detailed out this year's plan to distribute 2.2 million (22 lakh) saplings from Chittagong.
Later, saplings were handed over to different organisations and individuals.
BAT in South Asia Area Director (Corporate and Regulatory Affairs) Ali Naseer was also present among other high officials and distinguished citizens of the port city.
