FE Report
A three-day apparel and textile exposition begins in the city today (Thursday) to showcase local garment products in a bid to woo foreign buyers amid the ongoing global recession.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the trade body, is organising the 20th version of the annual event styled 'Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (BATEXPO) 2009' at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
The event is the biggest
by apparel manufacturers in the country and this year's budget for the fair is over Tk 20.0 million.
"We hope a large number of buyers will throng the fair venue as the demand for apparel items is picking up," BGMEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy told the reporters at a press conference at his office in the city Wednesday.
He said buyers mostly from Turkey, Japan and India might visit this year's fair. "We've invited Indian buyers through proper channel as we consider the neighbouring country a potential market for our goods."
A total of 86 stalls will display clothing products at the fair, BGMEA officials said.
Murshedy said: "We will showcase ready stock apparels for spot sales in the fair."
