Bau qool, Apple qool cultivation gaining popularity in Tangail

TANGAIL, Mar 23: Bau qool and Apple qool cultivation gaining popularity in the district after their first cultivation here under National Agriculture Technology Project (NATP) in 2007.
The first experimental cultivation was started in Tangail Sadar and Modhupur upazilas. In the current session Bhuapur, Ghatail, Kalihati and Delduar upazilas were brought under qool cultivation.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said Bauqool and Appole qool have become a profit making crop for the local farmers.
Anit Kumar, a farmer of Santosh said he is cultivating Bau qool and Appol qool at 10 decimal of his land and getting a good profit than other crops. Cultivation of qool is easier then other crops he added.
Shajahan Ali of south Gharinda said he is selling one kg Bau qool at Tk 50 to Tk 60 and one kg Apple qool at Tk 60 to Tk 70 with good margin of profit.
So, many farmers of the district are planting qool plants. DAE Tangail said high land is better than low land for the qool cultivation. So, qool cultivation is gaining popularity in the high land area of the district.
DAE Tangail also said Shakhipur and Gopalpur upazilas of the district also will be brought under qool cultivation in the next year.
