BB announces agri-loan policy

Setting a Tk 156-billion disbursement target, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Monday announced the agriculture-loan policy and programmes for fiscal 2014-15, up 6.54 per cent than last year's. Announcing the new agri-loan policy, Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman said the private and foreign banks have to provide at least 2.5 per cent of the total credit to the agriculture sector while the new 9 banks have to provide 5 per cent of their total loan to the sector. "Raising investment in the agriculture sector is the main objective of the new agri-loan policy," Dr Atiur said, according to a news agency.
