The central bank has asked the country's commercial banks to ensure transactions by arranging smooth operations of alternative delivery channels (ADCs) round the clock during the Eid vacation, officials said.
The ADCs cover the operations of ATM (Automated Teller Machine), POS (Point of Sale), e-Payment Gateway and Mobile Financial Services (MFS).
"We've taken the measures to ensure smooth transactions using the ADCs during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr vacation," a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told the FE while explaining the main objective of the latest directive. Transactions using the digital channels such as ATM, internet or online and mobile normally increase significantly during the weekend and other holidays, according to the central banker.
Currently, most of the commercial banks are now serving customers better through the ADCs as more and more clients prefer modern technologies to save their time and costs.
The scheduled banks will remain closed from June 25 to June 27 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. But the banks will also remain closed on June-23-24 as weekend.
However, certain branches of banks that are in the industrial zones at Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Narayanganj, Chittagong, Comilla, Mymensingh and Tangail will remain open half-day on June 23 and full day on June 24 with adequate security measures, for the sake of paying wages, bonus and other allowances to apparel and clothing workers.
