BB asks BRAC Bank to pay hacking victims

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed BRAC Bank to pay clients whose accounts have been hacked and money transferred to other accounts. The move comes after bdnews24.com ran the central bank’s report titled ‘BRAC Bank’s accounts hacked’ on Tuesday morning. Later in the afternoon, Managing Director of the central bank, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, said in a letter, “You are directed to return the money to those who are victims of the online hacking by March 31.” Hackers had transferred Tk 18,73,871 to various accounts from over 30 BRAC Bank accounts. The central bank also said password resetting must be made fully automatic within the March 31 deadline, according to a news agency.
