BB Gov meets Maniwa City Mayor

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Atiur Rahman on Tuesday met with the Mayor of the Maniwa City, Mr Oota Noboru on the last day of his visit to Japan. Oota Noboru pioneered the idea of biomass plant that uses only wood dust/scrub and less quality wood to generate heat, gas and power based on very simple steam-based environment-friendly technology, said a central bank press release. The mayor explained to the governor positive aspects of the plant, which is relatively less technical, less pollutant, less costly and labour intensive, generating higher employment that can easily be replicated to other places. The mayor said his office building including the surrounding areas of the office premises are completely run by a biomass plant and a project of producing 10,000 KW power covering all the households in the city is in progress. In reply, the central bank Governor mentioned that he too has deep interest in this kind of environment friendly projects, according to a news agency.
