FE REPORT | Friday, 1 November 2024
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur has assumed the role of Chairperson of SAARCFINANCE, a network comprising eight central bank governors from SAARC nations.
Dr. Mansur's term will span November 2024 to October 2025, following the 46th SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group Meeting held in Washington, D.C., on October 24.
He succeeds the previous Chair of SAARCFINANCE from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The SAARCFINANCE Network aims to foster regional collaboration by sharing insights and experiences on macroeconomic policies among member countries.
Bangladesh Bank's assistant spokesperson and director of communications, Ms. Saida Khanam, disclosed the development on Thursday. Earlier, at the 45th SAARCFINANCE Governors' Group Meeting in Sri Lanka in June, Bangladesh confirmed its acceptance of the Chair position.
The SAARCFINANCE Network was established following the 10th SAARC Summit, where heads of state and government agreed to form a network for central bank governors and finance secretaries to encourage dialogue on regional macroeconomic policies.
