BB governor urges pvt bodies to follow the suit

The affluent section of the society and different private corporation bodies should provide financial support to poor and underprivileged meritorious students of the rural area like Jamuna Bank Limited (JBL).
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Salehuddin Ahmed said this while speaking as the chief guest at the grand reception and scholarship awarding ceremony at the Osmani Memorial auditorium in the city Sunday.
The JBL organised the function for 55 poor and underprivileged meritorious students of rural areas who got GPA-5 in the SSC and Dakhil Examination-2007.
Chaired by JBL board of directors' Chairman Nur Mohammed, the function was attended, among others, by the bank's EC Chairman Golam Dastagir Gazi, Managing Director, Additional Managing Director, executives, branch managers, officers and valued clients of the bank.
The BB governor applauded effort of the bank for financial support to the really needy poor and underprivileged students of the rural area.
As a part of corporate social responsibilities, the bank has arranged the function giving scholarships and financial support to the poor meritorious students of the rural areas for prosecuting their higher studies, JBL chairman stated.
The bank shall also carry on different social work for poverty alleviation and serving the underprivileged section of the society through Jamuna Bank Foundation.
Later, the BB governor distributed awards and crests of the bank among the meritorious students.
The award for each student includes monthly scholarship of Tk 1,000 regularly during the period of higher studies, one time donation of Tk 5,000 for purchase of books and for admission into the HSC classes and passage money of Tk 1,000 for attending the function along with their guardians.
