BB inks deals with banks on wheat, maize production refinance scheme

Bangladesh Bank (BB) agricultural loan department has crafted a Tk 10 billion refinance scheme for the agriculture sector to enhance production of wheat and maize to meet the country's food demand.
A circular was issued in this regard on August 25 last, said a press release.
Following the circular, banks willing to be a part in distributing the agri loan under the scheme signed participation agreements with the central bank on Sunday.
Under the refinancing scheme, BB will distribute Tk 10 billion (1,000 crore) in its own source and participatory schedule banks will be implementing to disburse the fund to the farmers.
Md Abul Kalam Azad, Director of the Bangladesh Bank agricultural loan department, and managing directors of the concerned banks penned their signatures on the participation agreement documents.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan was present at the agreement signing programme.
Besides, BB Executive Director Md Awlad Hossain Chowdhury, officials of the central bank's agricultural loan department and the concerned banks' officials were also present at the event.
Meanwhile, Sonali Bank Limited signed a participation agreement with Bangladesh Bank (BB) to participate in a refinancing scheme of Tk 10 billion (1,000 crore) to increase the production of wheat and maize, said a press release.
Sonali Bank Limited Managing Director and CEO Md Afzal Karim and Bangladesh Bank (BB) Agriculture Credit Department Director Md Abul Kalam Azad signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at the BB conference room on Sunday.
Among others, BB Deputy Governor AKM Sajedur Rahman Khan, Sonali Bank Limited Deputy Managing Director Niranjan Chandra Debnath, General Manager Md Nurun Nabi and others high official of BB were present at the signing ceremony.
