FE Report
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has planned to provide incentive to the public for recovering Tk 5.0 and Tk 2.0 coins, which have already disappeared from the market.
"We are planning to recover such coins from the public providing incentive for a certain period," Executive Director of the BB Khandakar Muzharul Haque told reporters Thursday.
He also said over 50 per cent of such coins have already been kept in some informal places like earthen banks, boxes and bamboo poles.
In case of Tk 5.0 coin, around 70 million pieces of such coin are now in circulation out of 400 million, he added.
Besides, the central bank planned to exchange soiled and dirty notes of denomination of Tk 2.0 and Tk 5.0 from the public directly from cities aiming to withdraw such notes from the market.
The use of such notes is comparatively high and as such the notes are not being deposited to banks despite being soiled, dirty and torn, the BB official observed.
