B'baria AL leader sent to jail in anti- terrorism case

A Dhaka court has sent to jail former joint secretary and Bancharampur upazila Awami League (AL) president Sirazul Islam in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, reports BSS.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jakir Hossain passed the order on Tuesday
as police produced Sirazul (84) before the court and pleaded to keep him in jail until the end of investigation in the case.
Police arrested Sirazul Islam from his Tejgaon Tejkunipara residence on August 25 last.
According to the case documents, a group of people including 50-60 activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) attempted to hold an anti- government rally and chanted slogans in the capital's Gulistan area on March 26.
