CHITTAGONG July 6: Account holders of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Khatunganj branch demonstrated today in front of the branch demanding refund of their money.
Some 42 customers staged demonstrations in the morning and chanted slogan against the bank officials.
They said corrupt officials of the branch have misappropriated around Tk 70.0 million deposited with the bank by the customers.
They have, however, postponed the programme till July 23 as senior bank officials assured them of refunding their money by that time.
The agitators said one or two bank officials had misappropriated the money amounting to Tk 70.0 million which was supposed to be refunded within 15 days.
Three months have already elapsed, but the money was not refunded which prompted them to launch the agitation programme.
"The bank authority must shoulder the responsibility for misappropriation of the money by one or two officials. We demand intervention of the bank's higher authority in getting our money back," said Ishaque Chowdhury, one of the depositors.
Abdur Rahman, Mohammed Musa, Md Yusuf, Helal Uddin, Md Siraj, Md Alam, Shebok Roy and Nurul Islam, among others, were present.
