BCB president set to face upcoming Board elections

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Faruque Ahmed announced that he will be taking part in the next Board election, scheduled for October this year, according to Cricbuzz.
Faruque, former national cricketer and chief selector, replaced Nazmul Hasan as the board president on August 20 after the latter had fled from the country following political turmoil caused by the student movement. Having been a member of the Parliament from the then ruling party Awami League, Nazmul was forced to resign from the post.
Since taking over, Faruque has been at the receiving end on quite a few occasions. Nazmul Abedin, a prominent local coach who was appointed by the National Sports Council (NSC) along with Faruque as its new directors, has constantly threatened to quit over differences with the BCB boss.
Since then, several fingers were pointed on Faruque on different occasions ranging from match fixing scandals to financial irregularities which forced BCB to clarify the matter. "I think there is a section who had done corruption in the Board and are still trying to demean me. What is the easiest job for them (as I understand) is that if there are four columns written against me based on lies, they think that I am such a man that I will resign. So there is a game that they are playing intentionally and now, I am thinking I will try to fight in the election because the problem will not be solved if I quit," Faruque was quoted on Khaled Mohiuddin's show Thikana on April 29. Faruque, however, did not wanted to disclose much about his election plan and played diplomatically when he was asked whether he can still manage to hold the Board president position when the newly elected government takes over.
