BCB top brass face contempt of court

The High Court Tuesday summoned the chairman, managing director and company secretary of Bangladesh Commerce Bank (BCB) to appear in person before it on November 10 to explain their alleged contempt-of-court charge.
Passing the interim order after hearing a petition filed by M Zakir Hossain, an aggrieved bank director, an HC single bench with Justice M Rezaul Hasan issued a rule upon the three bank officials to explain why contempt-of-court proceedings should not be drawn against them for flouting court orders.
According to the case, the BCB authorities had long been nominating its director ignoring the opinions of its shareholders.
A bank shareholder filed a case with the High Court challenging the legality of nominating its director on pick-and-choose basis defying the shareholders-elected person as its director, according to a news agency.
