BCI, BPGMEA welcome proposed budget

Two leading trade bodies including a chamber welcomed the budget Thursday terming it timely, balanced and meaningful and said that it would inject new momentum into the economy.
Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI), the representative body of the local industries and manufacturers, has termed the budget 'industry friendly', adding that it would benefit the local manufacturers and entrepreneurs.
BCI in a press release Thursday hailed the budget for lowering the duty on basic raw materials to five per cent, while welcoming the move to increase the duty on imported finished goods.
Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), on the other hand, described the budget as "balanced and timely". It welcomed the budgetary move to decrease import duty on raw materials of plastic goods.
BPGMEA, however, demanded withdrawal of import duty on intermediary raw materials and other related duties.
