BCI for more backward linkage industries to diversify export

BCI President AK Azad urged the government to patronise the entrepreneurs for setting up of more backward linkage industries, to diversify export and to develop other potential sectors to face global competition.
He said this while presiding over the 22nd annual general meeting of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) held at the board room of BCI in the city Monday, says a press release.
The meeting discussed threadbare the last year's activities and accounts.
The meeting elaborately dwelt on the problems of industrialisation and solution thereto, export, investment, abnormal price hike, infrastructure problems including power, gas, water, overall political situation of the country and laid emphasis on solution of those problems.
AK Azad said political instability, law and order situation, terrorism etc are major hurdles on the way to industrialisation of the country and for that reason the economy could not reach the expected target.
He also emphasised to take necessary action to help remove the inefficiency of banking sector, to reduce bank rate, to set up more EPZ and industrial units/parks to bring down the prices of essential goods to a reasonable level.
ATM Waziullah, chairman of the election board of the association announced the result of election of the members of the board of directors of BCI for the term 2008-2010.
Shahedul Islam has been elected the president of BCI. SM Shahab Uddin and Delowar Hossain Raja have been elected the senior vice president and vice president respectively.
