Monday, 2 January 2012

RAJSHAHI, Jan 1 (UNB): Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League, activists assaulted and stabbed a police constable at Shah Makhdum Hall of Rajshahi University on Thirty-first night.
Constable Abdur Rashid was admitted to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with multiple wounds.
Police said Abdur Rashid and another constable Zahid were deployed at the residential hall to ward off any untoward incident during celebration of thirty-first night. They were listening to Tafsir Mehfil on cell phone. That angered BCL activists who took the constables as followers of Jama'at. Then they rebuked the constables and attacked them.
Zahid managed to flee but Abdur Rashid fell victim to arrogant BCL activists. President of university unit BCL Ahmed Ali admitted the incident and said constable Abdur Rashid made indecorous remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. That is why he was assaulted.
None was arrested in connection with the incident.
