BCL activists attack BSRC rally at DU

DU CORRESPONDENT | Saturday, 8 October 2022

A group of activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Friday allegedly attacked members of Bangladesh Students Right Council (BSRC), also known as former quota reformist platform, on the Dhaka University (DU) campus, leaving 12 of them injured.
Sources said the BSRC organised a programme in front of Raju Sculpture, marking the third death anniversary of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad.
The BCL men all of a sudden vandalised chairs, snatched mikes and burnt banners and festoons of the programme and attacked BSRC members leaving at least 12 of them injured, claimed BSRC president Bin Yamin Mollah.
The injured were given primary treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
However, BCL central joint general secretary Mahbub Khan said they (BSRC activists) were holding the programme along with outsiders and fundamentalists on the campus.
"When we asked them whether they were university students or not, suddenly they attacked us instead of giving answer and then university's general students resisted them," he said.
Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department of BUET, was beaten to death allegedly by some Chhatra League leaders on the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall sometime between 8:30pm on October 06 and 2:30am on October 07, 2019.
