BCL brings out rally protesting AL chief arrest

Tuesday, 17 July 2007

The Dhaka University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Sunday brought out a demonstration on the campus protesting the arrest of Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina.
Some 15 to 20 BCL leaders and activists from different halls converged at the Aparajeyo Bangla and suddenly started chanting provocative slogans against the interim government headed by Fakhruddin Ahmed.
DU unit president of the organisation Sheikh Sohel Rana Tipu and general secretary Sazzad Shakil Badsha led the protest procession. The on-duty police forces chased the procession soon after it had reached in front of Surya Sen hall of the university and dispersed the demonstrators.
BCL leaders threatened to enforce strike on the campus if their leader Sheikh Hasina is not released immediately.
No one however was arrested in this connection. Additional police personnel have been deployed in and around the campus to ward off any untoward incident.
