BCL councillors vote to elect new leadership

Sunday, 26 July 2015

Councillors of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) are voting to elect their new leaders.
The voting began on Sunday in the second session of the Awami-League-affiliated student body’s 28th National Convention.
Forty candidates are taking part in the poll, being held in the capital’s Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium.
Twelve candidates are running for the post of president, while 28 are vying for the general secretary’s position.
Around 3,000 councillors from the BCL’s 110 district-level units, including nine in other countries run by expatriate Awami League supporters, are voting to elect the central leadership for the next two years.
On Saturday, Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina had inaugurated the National Convention at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.
She suggested the formation of the new leadership through election. "Chhatra League's new leaders will be elected through votes. No one will be selected."
"The Chhatra League councillors will vote for the candidate they want to elect," according to bdnews24.com.
