BCL demands release of its general secy

Tuesday, 11 March 2008

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of Awami League, demanded Monday immediate release of its detained general secretary Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton, reports UNB.
Joint forces arrested Roton on January 15 last year while he along with five party colleagues were returning home at night.
BCL brought out a silent procession on the Dhaka University (DU) campus in the morning to press for its demand. Later, it held a rally in front of Arts Building.
BCL DU unit President Sohel Rana Tipu and General Secretary Sajjad Sakib Badshah, among others, addressed the rally.
They said no case was filed against Roton and the five BCL leaders arrested with him were released later. "Roton has been kept in jail for the last one year without any case against him. Besides, doctors have suggested better treatment for Roton as he underwent a major surgery several days back. So, we're demanding immediate release of our leader," Sajjad Sakib told the rally.
The BCL leaders said they would be bound to go for a tougher movement if Roton was not released immediately.
