BCL enforces indefinite strike at SUST

SYLHET, Sept 25 (UNB):Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit went on an indefinite strike at the university on Thursday, protesting attack on BCL central committee leader Uttam Kumar Das.  BCL university unit Vice-President Anjan Roy announced the strike on the campus at around 12:00 am, accusing Shibir activists of instigating the attack on Uttam.
Himadri Shekhor Ray, proctor of the university, said Uttam was sent to Dhaka for better treatment on Wednesday night as his condition deteriorated.
A group of unknown miscreants attacked and stabbed Uttam at about 10:15 pm on Wednesday when he along with some of his friends was gossiping at Mamoni Restaurant in front of the university main gate, leaving him seriously injured.
Uttam was taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
In a reaction, BCL activists blockaded the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway and vandalised vehicles.
Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying that additional police have been deployed on the campus.
