BCL expels 2 RU leaders

Tuesday, 4 February 2014

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) central committee on Monday night expelled its Rajshahi University (RU) unit joint general secretary Nasim Ahmed Setu and organising secretary Shamsuzzaman Emon for their alleged involvement in Sunday’s violence on the university campus. The expulsion orders were notified through a press release issued by the BCL central committee. The student body of the ruling Awami League will also go for action if the involvement of any other leaders and activists is found in the incident, the release said. Besides, BCL urged the RU authorities to reopen the university soon in a bid to restore academic activities. On Sunday, over 60 Rajshahi University (RU) students were injured, including 30 with bullets, as police swung into action while they were agitating on the campus in protest against fee hike and continuation of evening master’s programmes, according to UNB.
