BARISAL, Apr 18 (UNB): At least four Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists were injured in a factional clash at Barisal Government BM College over admission Saturday.
Campus sources said 4,140 candidates were selected for admission in 18 departments of the college for 2008-09 academic year.
However, 218 seats remained vacant as selected students failed to turn up and authority decided to admit students from the waiting list.
Two BCL groups, one led by Moin Tushar and another by Rafiq Serniabat, demanded to admit the students of their choice. The college authority asked them to submit a unanimous list.
But both the groups failed to prepare unanimous list and instead submitted separate lists creating tension. They clashed at noon with stick and sharp weapons leaving four activists wounded on both sides.
Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Earlier, Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College was closed Friday for an indefinite period following clashes between rival factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus.
